The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise: Camira Powell ’20

Columbia Business School has a very interesting elective co-taught by Professors Todd Jick and Bruce Usher. “Bridging the American Divide” examines that divide, the causes and consequences of it, and challenges students to come up with ideas on how they might bridge it. The course culminates in a 4-day visit to an American city where they meet with community stakeholders from local workers and policy makers, to school officials (in the case of Decatur) and engage in active listening sessions. The Fall 2019 class was split between two cities, Youngstown, OH and Decatur, AL. Camira Powell (2020) visited Decatur, AL, and this is her story. Enjoy it, and have a lovely weekend!
