How MBA Programs in Hong Kong are Preparing Future Business Leaders

Today’s blog looks at how top MBA programs in Hong Kong are preparing future business leaders.

The top universities in Hong Kong offer MBA programs for their graduates to obtain the essential skills to meet today’s employers’ needs such as technology and cryptocurrency, as well as a focus on soft skills such as communication.  The South China Morning Post features three top MBA programs in Hong Kong, sharing their recent developments and their focus areas to help students in their future careers.

  • The University of Hong Kong (HKU) MBA program focuses on three elements: critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. They couple those three focus areas with essential soft skills development including business communication and presentation development.  Senior executive director, Sachin Tipnis said, “the HKU program is designed to inspire future business leaders to comprehend, manage and capitalize on the region’s dynamic and rapidly evolving business environment, while providing them with maximum flexibility to balance work-study life.”  Consequently, HKU has the following theme areas in its curriculum that includes business tech and innovation, managing in China and Asia, marketing and general management, strategy, and consulting and finance.  Geographic reach is a big emphasis with the HKU program, with the business school slated to open campuses in Beijing and Shenzhen.

  • Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) MBA program is more focused on Asia development, especially in the Great Bay Area (GBA), combining international business concepts with exposure to the business world in China. Its curriculum includes business field trips, study tours, and exchange programs that enhance the student experience through global perspectives.  Additionally, the school’s location allows students the unique position of being halfway between both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen stock exchanges.  Roanne Law, marketing and admissions manager for the CUHK MBA program, said: “Asian economies are dominating the world in the 21st century, and understanding Asian business based on a solid Western management education is a must for any young professional.”  CUHK provides MBA students the opportunity to learn Western management theories while also providing them with an Eastern business network.

  • Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s (PolyU) MBA program keeps cryptocurrencies and technology in focus to ensure its MBA students are up to date on the latest developments. PolyU has a wide range of tech-related subjects such as cryptocurrency assets and data mining.  In addition, PolyU gives MBA students not only a general MBA degree but also the option to specialize in aviation or fashion, which is not often seen in most traditional MBA curriculums.

These MBA programs have also responded to the current hybrid-remote-first workforce.  HKU included remote working in its professional skills workshops that are hosted by experts that teach MBA students how to lead a hybrid workforce when they start their own business or secure their future senior management role.  PolyU strengthened technology in its curriculum by helping its students understand how to be a business leader in the digital era with the context of how the pandemic sped up digital transformation.
