Private medical schools are usually more expensive than state schools, but affordable private schools do exist. For example, U.S. News & World Report released its ten most affordable list yesterday, and here are the five least expensive, ranked in order of most to least affordable:
1. Baylor Coll. of Medicine …….. $31,663 (2015-16 tuition)
2. Lake Erie Coll. Osteopathic ….. $32,985
3. U. of Pikeville …………….. $41,320
4. U. of Miami (Miller) ………… $42,626
5. Edward Via Coll. Osteopathic …. $43,250
The bad news is that only two of these affordable schools are ranked in the top 100 U.S. medical schools. The other three are in the bottom 25% of the U.S. News ranking. In the magazine’s next five most affordable schools, however, you’ll find two more top 100-ranked programs:
9. Hofstra U. …………………. $48,500
10. Mayo Medical Coll. ………….. $49,900
Quality and affordability can go to together. For U.S. News’s full ‘top 10’ list, follow this link.
