The University of Michigan Ross School of Business offers a rigorous, collaborative full-time MBA program that emphasizes real-world, hands-on learning through its signature Action-Based Learning approach—most notably the MAP (Multidisciplinary Action Projects) program, where students consult for real organizations around the globe. Ross cultivates principled, impact-driven leaders who are not only analytically strong but also emotionally intelligent, inclusive, and action-oriented. The school values candidates who bring a clear sense of purpose, leadership potential, and a commitment to making a positive difference in their organizations and communities. Successful applicants demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a track record of initiative, impact, and growth – both professionally and personally. Ross looks for individuals who will thrive in its tight-knit, supportive community and who are eager to contribute to its culture of innovation, engagement, and leadership development.

Is there something in your resume or application that needs a brief explanation? Appropriate uses of this essay would be the explanation of an employment gap, academic outliers, choice of recommender, completion of supplemental coursework, etc. You may use bullet points where appropriate. (250 words)
Ross only wants explanatory or extenuating circumstance material here: “the explanation of an employment gap, academic outliers, choice of recommender, completion of supplemental coursework, etc.” Brief, factual statements are expected, nothing essayistic. Their language (“brief explanation,” “use bullet points”) makes clear that they do not want you to share an additional accomplishment or community involvement or hobby. Give them what they want.
By thoughtfully articulating your career goals and personal attributes and aligning them with Ross’s distinctive offerings and values, you’ll present a compelling case for your candidacy.
